Caring for the Caregivers: The Story and Mission of the Dr. Mom Foundation

In this session, Dr. Seth Snyder will share the story of his wife, Dr. Radhika Lal Snyder, and how her life and death inspired the founding of the Dr. Mom Foundation, alongside the memory of Dr. Gretchen Wenner Butler.

The Dr. Mom Foundation is dedicated to supporting the mental health, physical health, career satisfaction, and overall wellness of physician mothers and other health care providers with families. Dr. Snyder will highlight the foundation’s mission to raise awareness of postpartum and maternal mental health, provide resources and advocacy, and promote meaningful changes in workplace and public policies.

His talk underscores a powerful message: caregivers need care too, and supporting their well-being strengthens families, communities, and the future of health care. In connection with the goals of Retrospective Fatality Analysis, his story also illustrates how deeply personal narratives can help us understand the factors that contribute to loss and use that knowledge to inform prevention and postvention efforts at every level.
