CODE RED: A Universal Approach to Safety Planning

Most suicide prevention efforts focus on identifying and responding to people who are already in crisis. CODE RED takes a different approach. Developed by Dr. Julie Cerel at the University of Kentucky, CODE RED is a universal safety planning tool that helps people prepare for difficult moments before they occur.

In this webinar, Dr. Cerel will introduce the principles behind CODE RED and explain how the model encourages individuals to identify trusted contacts, delay risky decisions, practice relaxation strategies, and use healthy distractions during times of distress. She will also discuss the growing evidence supporting universal safety planning and share findings from an initial study showing high levels of acceptability and feasibility among school personnel.

Whether you work in suicide prevention, education, healthcare, public health, or community support, this webinar will provide practical insights into an upstream approach that aims to build resilience, strengthen connections, and increase readiness to respond when mental health challenges arise.

This webinar takes place from 12:00-1:00 PM EDT.
